Modeling recreational use with digital mobility data
2024-2027
US Forest Service Recreation, Heritage, and Volunteer Resources
The purpose of this project is to research if and how digital mobility data can be used to efficiently and accurately estimate visitor use on national forest lands. The study is examining whether there are relationships between the density of devices recorded in digital mobility dataset with independent measures of visitation. And the team is testing whether these relationships can inform the development statistical models for estimating recreational use on national forest lands. This research on innovative approaches to visitor use monitoring is providing important information related to the management of recreation opportunities on national forests and grasslands.
